In September 2022, Prof. Hui Su joined The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) from NASA and took part in leading the “HKUST–ALRIS-1” satellite project—the first Earth observation satellite led by Hong Kong’s higher education sector. The project aims to enhance precision forecasting of extreme weather events such as typhoons and heavy rainstorms, as well as monitor greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide, contributing actively to China’s “carbon neutrality” goals and global emission reduction efforts. During her time at NASA, Prof. Su was twice awarded the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal, and last year received the Banner I. Miller Award from the American Meteorological Society in recognition of her outstanding contributions to advancing weather forecasting.

Stellerus Founder Prof. Hui Su Co-leads Belt and Road Space Science Training Program in Hong Kong to Advance Local Integration into National Aerospace Strategy
From July 24 to August 5, 2025, the Second Belt and Road Space Science and Technology Application Training Program is being held at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). The event is jointly organized by the Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization (CSU) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), HKUST, and the Hong Kong Institute of Innovation of CAS, under the guidance of the Bureau of International Cooperation of CAS, the China Manned Space Agency, and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This marks the first time Hong Kong has hosted a comprehensive training program on space resource development, representing a significant step forward in the city’s efforts in space science education and practical applications.
